What is Qigong?

The word Qigong (pronounced Chi Gung) is actually made up of 2 words. ‘Qi’ meaning the subtle energy that moves throughout the universe and through our body and ‘Gong’ which is the word for hard work or high skill. So putting them together, Qigong is the practice of cultivating or working with these energies or simply put ‘Energy Work”.

What is Qigong?

There are many different styles of Qigong and many ways of practising it. It is mostly made up of subtle movements, postures, meditations, visualisations and breathing exercises. Tai Chi for example is a movement form of Qigong with many different schools and styles. QiGong can be divided into Martial, Daoist, Buddhist, Confusion, Medical and Folk styles.

What is Medical Qigong?

Medical Qigong is taught by Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practitioners. Tailored specifically to the client, medical Qigong exercises correct and restore the function of the body. It can help with healing the body and mind when the body is out of balance or maintaining health when you’re feeling well.

After a session the client will be given Qigong prescriptions to assist in their ongoing healing. As with every form of exercise, it is important to make Qigong practice a regular part of your daily life to experience the health benefits this ancient form of Chinese exercise offers.

Who can benefit from medical Qigong?

Everyone can benefit from Qigong! It can be used to prevent disease and maintain wellbeing or it can restore and heal the body and mind when there is disease.

Medical Qigong can be particularly beneficial in the following situations:

  • fertility and preparing to conceive, pregnancy and post-partum
  • mental health problems (depression, anxiety, stress)
  • (chronic) pain
  • cancer care and support

Can I learn Qigong at Natural Solutions Acupuncture?

Yes you can! Therese Poon is our Qigong teacher. She is a TCM practitioner and has taught medical Qigong around the world. She is now based in Melbourne (AUS). The learning takes place via Telehealth from the comfort of your own home. Her teachings are suitable for beginners as well as experienced practitioners. Therese also travels to Sydney to deliver face to face Qigong workshops on a regular basis.
