Fertility Acupuncture and Self Care

April 14, 2018

Did you know that it is estimated that 1 in 6 couples have trouble falling pregnant? Having a family is dream that many of us have, and it is seen as one of the most natural things in the world. So if it doesnโ€™t happen naturally, it can be devastating. With modern medicine, overcoming fertility is technically becoming easier but emotionally it is very hard to deal with. It can be a lonely and very stressful experience.

Here are some tips to help you relax through the difficult times:

1. Set some time aside to do something that really relaxes you regularly (most days if you can). There is no one thing that fits everybody. It can be yoga, exercising, reading, socialising, taking a bath. Anything that makes you feel good.

This point (called Liver 3 – Taichong) is particularly useful to reduce the effects the stress and pressure have on your body. You find it in-between the bones of your big and second toe. Use firm, deep pressure to massage the point for 2-3 minutes on each foot. Make sure you are in a relaxed and comfortable position. You can use acupressure as often as you like. You can do it yourself, or get someone else to do it for you.

3. Use essential oils, they can be deeply relaxing. A great option is the combination of Lavender Peace and Balance blends, they are very calming and grounding. You can simply smell them from the bottle or place a few drops in a diffuser. Another option is to add a drop of each into the palm of your hands, rub together, and inhale.

Fertility Acupuncture

Numerous studies have been done in the past years suggesting that acupuncture can support natural fertility as well as IVF and having acupuncture to aid fertility is becoming much more main stream.

Acupuncture is a holistic treatment meaning that it takes into account physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing all at the same time. It is very clear from a Chinese medicine point of view that besides the physical reasons for infertility, the mental/emotional aspects play a big role. This is particularly true if it is taking a long time and a lot of intervention to fall pregnant. All the emotions someone goes through on their journey to pregnancy have an effect on their body. So apart from supporting the physical aspects we also make sure we balance emotional health. This will make you healthier and stronger and improves the likelihood of a good outcome.
