How does Microneedling work?

There are different types of hairloss. These include Androgenic Alopecia (commonly known as male pattern baldness) which may occur in both genders, postpartum hair loss and general thinning of hair associated with age.

Research shows that microneedling works by stimulation of stem cells and inducing activation of growth factors. The study compared using Minoxidil (Rogaine) on its own versus using Minoxidil with a dermaroller. The dermaroller along with Minoxidil treated group was statistically superior to Minoxidil treated group in promoting hair growth. (See here for the study)

What is the course of acupuncture treatment like?

Depending on the cause of hair loss, hair restoration can be an ongoing issue especially with Androgenic Alopecia. For hair loss treatment, microneedling is performed weekly for a total of 6 weeks. The results will then be reviewed. Further course of treatment may be recommended after 1-2 months of break.

What products are also used during treatment?

During the initial consultation, a specially formulated hair restoration spray will be given to you as part of the personalised needling kit. This herbal based solution is applied to the treatment area twice daily during the course of treatment. For ongoing hair loss, it is recommended to continue using the spray during treatment break.

Is cosmetic acupuncture covered by private health insurance?

If you have private health insurance and are covered for acupuncture you will get a rebate. Please bring in your card and you will only have to pay the gap.
