For the last twelve years we have focused on and worked with male and female reproductive health. The patients who come to our fertility acupuncture clinic have concerns about their menstrual cycle and hormones, their response to an fertility support regimen, their egg or sperm quality or problems in their early pregnancy. Our practitioners have over 20 years of experience supporting people with reproductive health, and have worked with patients that have complicated problems and have not been helped by other health professionals and care providers.

How Does Acupuncture Support Fertility?

Having a family is a dream that many of us have but unfortunately often it doesn’t come naturally. It is now estimated that 1 in 6 couples have trouble falling pregnant. With modern medicine, overcoming infertility is technically becoming easier, but this is often a very stressful experience. The road to having a baby often becomes long and hard.

How does Chinese Medicine view fertility?

Chinese medicine uses different measures to find out what might be the problem in case of a couples infertility. We extensively examine the medical history, including blood tests and other investigations that have been done but we have some extra tools that give us more, much-needed information. Often we will ask the woman to record her BBT’s (Basal Body Temperatures) for a while which gives us a lot of insight in the hormonal cycle and we also feel the pulse and look at the tongue for more clues. This means that also in case of unexplained infertility, there are often acupuncture treatment options that we can use to support your fertility.

Marieke O'Halloran

I am Marieke O’Halloran and I am the director at Natural Solutions Acupuncture. I have now worked in the health industry for more than 25 years and for most of that time have been focused on supporting couples on their fertility journey. Our bodies have an amazing capacity to heal themselves however often they need a helping hand to get back on track. It is an honour to be able to support both men and women on their journey to become parents.

We have a dedicated team of 4 acupuncturists here and we all have all done extensive training in Fertility and Women’s & Men’s Health. As a team we also regularly come together and discuss all our cases, fertility treatment here at Natural Solutions is a true team effort!

I personally like to work with couples that have a complicated history and have not been helped by other practitioners. I love the challenge of putting the pieces of the puzzle together to get better outcomes. It can be so satisfying!

I-Li is most interested in working with older aged couples and women who suffer from PMO(S) (formerly PCOS) and endometriosis. Many of these couples seek alternative therapies only after years of trying to conceive naturally or undergoing cycles of IVF without success. This often results in high levels of stress and anxiety. She has a great ability to listen and work with emotions due to her prior training in counselling. She also enjoys helping her clients understand the importance of self-care and life balance during the treatment process while working towards their fertility goal.

Wendy loves working with both partners, male and female. As we know, baby making is 50-50 and there has been a huge increase in male factor infertility. Wendy has seen great results when both partners are putting in effort to get their general health in order. She is also very experienced working with couples that have experienced (repeated) miscarriages. She has great knowledge about thyroid problems affecting fertility. Wendy is currently on maternity leave until March ’27.

Natasha is just a great fertility all-rounder. She loves helping couples achieve their dream of having a baby and will leave no stone unturned to help you. She has done extensive training and has great fertility knowledge.

What is involved in a Fertility Acupuncture Session?

In your initial session we take our time to go through your history and gather all the information we need to get to a traditional Chinese medicine diagnosis. It is important you bring all your blood results and reports from other investigations with you.

Every session starts with discussing your current symptoms and overall health. To get further information we will then feel your pulse and have a look at your tongue. We decide on the points that we will be using that session and insert fine needles into those pressure points. The needles will stay in place for 20-30 minutes during which you can rest and relax. After the needles have been removed you can get up again and continue your day.

What can i expect after my Fertility Acupuncture Session?

Most people rest deeply whilst having acupuncture and feel very relaxed after the session. There is nothing in particular that you need to do or not do afterwards, just do what feels good to you. In the days after the treatment you will start to notice the positive effects the session has on your health and wellbeing. The effects are accumulative, that means that after more sessions the effects tend to last longer. Generally for fertility acupuncture we will need to see you over the course of at least 3 to 6 months. We will discuss during your first session what is to be expected in your particular case and how many sessions will be needed.

Most Private Health Funds cover acupuncture however it is important to check your level of cover with your health fund prior to your treatment. We do have HICAPS facilities so if you’re covered you will only have to pay the gap.
